Clothing and Textile Recycling Collection -Saturday, November 15,9 AM - 1 PM, Delmar Farmers Market,Bethlehem Central Middle School,332 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar
Clean out your closets and bring your used clothes and other textiles to the Delmar Farmers Market (which is inside the Middle School cafeteria at that time)! Celebrate America Recycles Day and help benefit a great cause—proceeds will benefit Bethlehem Central School District environmental programs!
Bethlehem joins communities across the state in kicking off the “Clothes the Loop NY” textile recovery campaign on November 15! It is sponsored by the New York Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3), the Council for Textile Recycling (CTR) and the Secondary Materials & Recycled Textiles Association (SMART).
Did you know over $200 million dollars worth of recoverable clothing and other textiles are thrown away by NY residents each year? Most people know reusable clothing can be donated to be worn again, but other textiles can be recycled into wiping rags, auto insulation, carpet padding and more, saving money and space in our landfills.
Acceptable items include:
• ALL types of clothing
• Fabric, and household textiles (tablecloths, sheets,
• blankets, pillows, curtains, towels), and stuffed animals
• Belts, hats, gloves, purses, bags, backpacks, footwear
• All items must be clean and dry, but it is okay if they are worn, torn, ripped, stained or damaged! Backpack with a broken zipper? Shoe without a mate? STILL acceptable!
Unacceptable items: Do not include mattresses, loose foam stuffing, toys and household goods. No wet or mildewy textiles. No smelly items. No items contaminated with oil, paint or hazardous materials.
