Job Description
Position:      Advancement Officer
Status:          Exempt, Full-Time
Location:      Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Delmar, NY
Reports to:   Executive Director
 
SUMMARY
The Advancement Officer is a key member of our leadership team, responsible for building the financial foundation of the organization. The primary goal of this position is to create a sustainable funding model that supports our mission, staff, and programs for the long term. The Advancement Officer will manage and grow our investment funds, secure annual operating donations, and lead a transition to a recurring donation model.  This is a pivotal moment for our organization, and you'll be joining us at the perfect time to build on our success and elevate our mission to new heights.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
Fundraising and Development:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet annual revenue goals in close collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Manage and grow the organization's investment funds through major gift cultivation, planned giving initiatives, and comprehensive campaigns.
  • Assist in the transition from a traditional membership model to incorporating a recurring donation model and assisting in the development of new messaging and communication strategies to support this shift.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, and foundationrepresentatives.
  • Assist the Executive Director with grant applications, ensuring they are aligned with organizational goals and funding requirements.
  • Enhance and expand our existing successful fundraising events by leveraging new sponsors to help increase revenue.
Technology and Data Management:
  • Help make our CRM system more efficient and better utilized.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in our CRM to support all fundraising and communication efforts.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends, forecast revenue, and segment donor lists for targeted outreach.
Donor Relations and Communication:
  • Assist the Executive Director and work closely with the Fund Development Committee regarding a donor communications plan, including direct appeals, thank-you letters, and other stewardship communications.
  • Assist in organizing and executing donor appreciation events, tours, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Serve as one of the key spokespersons for the organization, articulating our mission and impact to potential donors and partners.
  • Collaborate with key staff and committees to ensure accurate donor data, gift processing, and financial reporting.
  • Provide regular financial reports and updates on fundraising progress to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Non-profit Management, Communications, Business Administration) or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a fundraising, development, or related role, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Proven track record of success in securing major gifts, managing an annual fund, and/or growing an endowment.
  • Experience with fundraising software and CRMs.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, and public speaking skills.
