ALBANY – March 1, 2018 – CAP COM Federal Credit Union and its charitable giving arm, the CAP COM Cares Foundation, has announced the launch of the 2018 BIG Benefit Raffle. Twice a year the Credit Union runs a two month campaign where a maximum of 4,000 raffle tickets are sold. Tickets are open to both members and non-members of the Credit Union, and are sold for $25 each. This year’s Spring Raffle will run through May 2nd or when tickets sell out.

The BIG Benefit Raffle will raise a grand total of $100,000 and the funds are distributed in three ways.  $21,000 will be awarded to eight community winners for large cash prizes between $1,000 and $10,000. $10,000 will be awarded to the 2018 beneficiary, YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, and the remaining $69,000 will all be distributed to year-round foundation funding to CAP COM’s more than 100 community partners.

Picking YWCA-GCR as the 2018 beneficiary helps tell a story with members when they purchase their raffle tickets at branches, while allowing CAP COM to share the great work of some of their community pillars and partners. Sharing that impact story puts a tangible cause in front of the members. The $10,000 will support YWCA-GCR’s Centennial Celebration Building Fund “100 Challenge” for their beautiful nearly 100-year-old building to continue to be a source of support, hope and empowerment for women and families in our community.

Since 1883, YWCA of the Greater Capital Region has served women in the City of Troy and Greater Capital Region areas. For the past 100 years their building at 21 First Street in Troy, NY has been the start of positive change for thousands of local women and children. Programs offered in this building by YWCA-GCR are designed to help women prepare for school and employment through economic advancement programs. It provides affordable, safe and supportive transitional and permanent housing, food security services, homelessness prevention, and advocates for gender, justice and racial equality.  Today, they are one of the area’s largest providers, of affordable and supportive housing to more than 100 single women and women with children that would otherwise be homeless or living in substandard housing.

CAP COM Community Relations Manager, Amanda Goyer said, “We are thrilled to partner with the YWCA-GCR to help them continue to deliver crucial services that are life-changing for individuals in our Region. The YWCA’s programs create impact that last. They help women and children get back on their feet and stay on their feet so they can sustain a productive lifestyle. The longevity of the YWCA’s impact is so important, and one of the reasons why the CAP COM Cares Foundation feels so strongly about getting behind their mission.”

“We are proud and grateful for CAP COM selecting YWCA of the Greater Capital Region as the 2018 Spring Big Benefit Raffle Benefactor! The campaign will not only benefit YWCA-GCR but a plethora of Nonprofits across the Capital Region. This opportunity came at a perfect time as YWCA-GCR is celebrating the centennial celebration of our beautiful building in downtown Troy. The proceeds from the campaign will used for our Centennial Building Fund to reinvest in our beautiful building where women and children reside and the community is served”, stated Daquetta Jones, Executive Director, YWCA-GCR.

The cash prize drawing will be held May 16th at the CAP COM headquarters at 4 Winners Circle, Albany, at noon. The $10,000 check will also be awarded to YWCA-GCR at this time. The annual BIG Benefit Raffle is one of three large CAP COM fundraisers held annually.
