FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — One Roof. Fifty Years. 65 Lives. Unbridled Sanctuary Needs a New Roof — and the Community Can Make It Happen WESTERLO, NEW YORK — December 4, 2025 - Tonight, and every night, 65 equines sleep under the same Sanctuary roof.
Horses. Donkeys. Mules. Over 1,000 cumulative years of sentient life sheltered at once. Not show horses. Not champions with sponsors. Horses nobody wanted — now safe because Unbridled did not look away. For 21 years, Unbridled Sanctuary has been home for those who had none. Of the 65 permanent equine residents, over 50 Thoroughbreds live here -- more than any other Sanctuary in New York State. The original cedar roof over their barn has reached the end of its life. It cannot weather another winter. Not someday — now. The Goal: 50 Years of Unbridled Grace Unbridled is launching a 21-day campaign to raise $67,200 to replace the failing barn roof with a new shingle roof guaranteed for 50 years. The project has been bid, approved, and contracted with Grace Roofing, a woman-owned local business known for quality, integrity, and community commitment. This is not a wish list. This is infrastructure that determines life, safety, warmth, survival. Why This Matters to the Capital Region “A roof sounds simple — until you need one,” says Founder Susan Kayne. “Without it, there is no sanctuary. With it, we guarantee safety for generations.” Every day the barn stands, Unbridled keeps unwanted horses alive, fed, warm, protected. Every night they sleep dry because a roof holds. Every dawn, rescue continues because shelter stands. Every dusk, a promise is kept. This roof has already protected thousands of horse-years. Now the community can secure the next 50 years.
