Capital District Residents Join Forces for Pancreatic Cancer Research
Lustgarten Foundation’s 16th Annual Albany Walk

On Sunday, September 15th hundreds of local residents will gather to fight against pancreatic cancer at the 16th Annual Lustgarten Foundation Albany Capital District Walk for Pancreatic Cancer Research at the Elm Avenue Town Park in Delmar, NY. After surpassing the milestone of having raised one million dollars last year, we are we are on our way to raising another million, with every dollar supporting life-changing research.

Walk leader Neil Piper lost his mother, sister, and brother, as well as a paternal uncle, to pancreatic cancer, which has a five-year survival rate of only eight percent. Fifteen years ago, he and his wife Shari decided to turn their grief into action by starting a pancreatic cancer fundraising walk in association with the Lustgarten Foundation. “After losing so many family members to pancreatic cancer, my choice was either to bury my head or do something,” said Neil. “So we did, and will continue to fight and fundraise for the Lustgarten Foundation until there is early detection and a cure.”

The 1.2-mile wheelchair accessible, child, stroller, and pet-friendly event will include a pick-a-prize auction; a 50/50 raffle; a pet parade; free water, donuts, coffee, tea, and apple cider; a pancreatic cancer information area; purple hair extensions by Shear Simplicity; 10-minute chair massages; entertainment by The Puppet People; and live music by Code Blue. The first 500 walkers will receive a free walk-t-shirt and a goody bag.

Registration begins at 8:00 AM at the park’s large pavilion, with the walk stepping off at 10:15 AM. You can follow this link to visit the Lustgarten Albany Walk registration site: www.lustgartenwalkalbany.org

Neil and Shari, along with a walk organizing committee are continuing to mobilize their community in the spirit of hope to bring an end to this terrible disease. They will all be at the walk and happy to share their stories and involvement with the Lustgarten Foundation.
