Board of Assessment Review The Bethlehem Town Board is seeking candidates to serve on the Board of Assessment Review (BAR). The Board of Assessment Review’s sole purpose is to guarantee taxpayer’s rights by hearing real property assessment complaints (grievances) and arriving at fair and impartial determinations regarding those grievances. For more information on the BAR, please visit the BAR page on the Town website. The BAR meets for grievance day on the fourth Tuesday in May, and also meets several times in June for deliberations. In addition to attending meetings and reviewing documents in advance of meetings, BAR members should be able to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of people. In 2025, BAR members were compensated at a rate of $17.50 per hour. It is the policy of Town of Bethlehem not to discriminate against any applicant because of age, color, sex, disability, national origin, race, religion, or veteran status. Bethlehem residents interested in serving as a member of the BAR should submit a resume and brief cover letter to sagosta@townofbethlehem.org, and make sure to address any pertinent experience, including professional and personal experience, that is relevant to the position.
